9 Things you should know about Parcel Pick-up
You want to have a parcel collected but the driver arrives and the parcel is not yet ready? Or not accessible? The driver did not come? You have an urgent shipment but cannot request same-day collection? Customers regularly contact our customer service with these or similar questions about pick-up. However, planning and preparing the collection of your business shipment is not difficult. Just bear in mind the following points – whether you are sending a document, a parcel or a pallet. We have compiled the nine most frequently asked questions about pick-ups that we receive from our customers.
Are there any fees for collection?
No, LetMeShip only offers door-to-door services. The collection of the shipment is always included in the shipping price.
Can I bring the shipment myself if collection is no longer possible?
As a rule, no. However, there are exceptional cases in which it may be possible for you to bring your shipment to the nearest depot yourself. This applies in particular to extremely urgent shipments that have missed the original collection date due to a late registration. Even if the courier has not arrived at the agreed time for other reasons (e.g. traffic congestion, technical problems), the collection must usually be re-ordered. In this case, please contact our customer service as soon as possible.
Can I arrange a specific time for the driver to pick up my parcel?
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a specific time for the driver to pick up your parcel. The drivers have fixed routes and are therefore heavily dependent on traffic volumes and traffic obstructions.
When booking via LetMeShip, you can select a time window in which the driver can come. While a time window of two to three hours is sufficient in large cities, a window of four to five hours should be specified in smaller cities or rural areas.
Make sure that the driver has access to the package during this time.
When are parcels collected?
The time at which you can have your parcel collected depends on the service you have chosen and the shipping company. Parcels in standard shipping are collected on the day after booking or on a collection day of your choice. Drivers usually pick up parcels by 4 or 5 p.m., and by 8 or 10 p.m. for DHL and FedEx. For express shipping, the same-day pick-up request should be received by LetMeShip by 12 noon. Please note that if you request a pick-up later than this, the delivery will usually not be made until the next business day. Pick-ups in the morning are usually not possible.
Does the driver provide packaging material?
No, the driver does not provide any material and does not pack the goods. You are responsible for providing the shipping boxes, bubble wrap and labels, as the parcel services do not usually offer these materials. You will receive the shipping labels after you have made your booking via the LetMeShip portal.
Do you need additional shipping material for your shipment, e.g. envelopes, bags or tape? Talk to us. We provide shipping material in many cases.
What needs to be prepared for the collection?
To ensure safe delivery, it is essential that the shipment is carefully packed. Please use sturdy boxes and protect sensitive contents adequately. Remember that proper packaging not only prevents transport damage, but is also a prerequisite for any insurance claim. Furthermore, all shipping labels and any additional stickers that may be required – e.g. for fragile goods – should be attached to the package. Also make sure that it is accessible to the driver and that there are no other things or closed doors in the way.
Where can I have parcels collected?
The parcel can be collected from any address in Germany, it does not have to be your own. It is also possible to have parcels collected from abroad. To do this, simply enter the desired collection address when booking. Important: Please make sure that someone at the collection address is informed about the parcel collection and the collection time and that the driver has access to the package.
What can you do if the driver does not show up?
You want to have your parcel picked up, but the driver does not appear within the agreed time frame. There can be various reasons for this: traffic congestion, force majeure and sometimes simply a human error. In this case, please inform our customer service as soon as possible. We will take care of it immediately and arrange a new appointment with the service provider.
The driver showed up, but no one was there and the package was inaccessible. Are there any fees?
A new order usually has to be placed with LetMeShip for the collection. To do this, simply log in to your customer account or contact your personal point of contact. Whether additional fees or cancellation fees are incurred depends on the selected service provider. No cancellation fees are charged for express shipments.
